Rogelio Martinez - U.S. Border Patrol Fatality - Texas

Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez, age 36, died in the line of duty on November 19, 2017, at a hospital in west Texas.

Agent Rogelio was a member of the United States Border Patrol. He was assigned to the Big Bend Sector. He had four years of service.

During the morning hours, Rogelio and his partner were called out to respond to suspicious activity near an Interstate Highway close to Van Horn, Texas.

A group of illegal aliens attacked the agents by throwing rocks. Both agents were seriously injured.

Responding units rushed both men to a local hospital where, tragically, Rogelio succumbed to his injuries.

Rogelio's partner is still in the hospital with severe injuries as of this posting.

The suspects have not been apprehended.

Rogelio was a native of El Paso, Texas, where he attended Irvin High School. 

Friends describe Rogelio as a man who wanted to make a difference. He was giving and kind in spirit. He loved his family. 

The members of the United States Border Patrol are in mourning over the death of their brother. Rogelio died in the service of his country. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Rogelio's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Rogelio is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his fiancée and son.

Thank you for your service to America, Rogelio.
