Francis Deschenes - Royal Canadian Mounted Police Fatality - Nova Scotia

Constable Francis Deschenes, age 35, died in the line of duty on September 12, 2017, on the Trans-Canada Highway near Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada. 

Constable Deschenes was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, based at Amherst, Nova Scotia.  He had 12 years of service. 

Francis was known as Frank to his family and friends. 

Shortly after 6:00 p.m., Frank pulled over to help two people in an SUV with a tire change. The circumstances of the accident are not clear. However, a utility van collided with Frank's cruiser and he was mortally injured.

Tragically, Frank, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

The cause of the collision is under investigation.  

Frank was originally from northern New Brunswick. He worked as a traffic reconstructionist trained to investigate collisions and determine causes and as a member of the Special Tactical Operations/Tact Troop.

Frank was hailed as a hero in 2008 for saving a 26-year-old woman whose car was stopped on railroad tracks as a freight train sped toward it. In 2013 he received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal which honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.

The members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are in mourning over the death of their brother. Frank was a highly respected and dedicated professional. He had a helpful personality and a kind spirit. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Frank's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He died while coming to the aid of strangers. Frank was loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Frank is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife.
