Obadiah Jenkins - A Good Samaritan in Alaska

Obadiah Jenkins
On August 12, 2017, Daniel Hartung went kayaking during a bluegrass and whitewater festival near Hope, Alaska

Hope is about 88 miles southeast of Anchorage.

Daniel Hartung had kayaked on flat water for more than 10 years and decided to try out whitewater kayaking for the first time.

He managed to pass over one waterfall, but fell out of his kayak at the next one and became pinned by the churning waters and a submerged log.

Obadiah Jenkins was celebrating his 33rd birthday in the vicinity with friends.  He threw Daniel Hartung a rope.

Daniel couldn't keep his head above water, so Obadiah jumped in, grabbed Daniel and hauled him to safety. Obadiah also helped perform CPR to revive Daniel.

Obadiah said: "It was my birthday and I just wanted that guy to have another birthday."

Obadiah Jenkins is a Good Samaritan.

The Good Samaritan reaches out to strangers
who are in danger.

Good Samaritans are the everyday heroes of the modern era.

God bless Obadiah Jenkins and all who step up to help strangers in times of great distress. Amen.
