Elise Ybarra - Police Officer Fatality - Abilene, Texas

Detective Elise Ybarra, age 33, died in the line of duty on August 6, 2017, on a highway near Abilene, Texas.

Detective Ybarra was a member of the Abilene Police Department. She was assigned to the Special Victims Unit. She had 3 years of service.

Elise and two other detectives were on their way to Dallas, Texas to attend a Conference regarding Crimes Against Children. At about 6:15 p.m., while driving on Interstate-20, Elise's department vehicle was struck by a pick-up truck.

Tragically, Elise died at the scene of the collision.

The other two officers were transported to a local hospital but were not seriously injured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Elise first served as a patrol officer for two years and then became a child abuse investigator with the special victim's unit in 2016. Elise had previously served with the Sedalia Police Department in Missouri.

The members of the Abilene Police Department and the Sedalia Police Department are in mourning over the death of their sister. Elise was an outstanding officer. She was kind in spirit, sincere and genuine. She had people skills that were an asset to the Department. She will be forever remembered.

Elise's loved ones are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. She was loved. She did her best. She will be forever mourned.

Elise is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including her husband, Adam, and their 10 month old daughter.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Elise is in Heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
