Michael Walter - Fatality - Virginia State Police

Michael Walter
Special Agent Michael Walter, age 45, died in the line of duty on May 27, 2017, at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

Special Agent Walter was a member of the Virginia State Police. He was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Section of the Department. He had 18 years of service.

He was known as Mike to his family and friends.

On May 26, 2017, Michael and other law enforcement officers were conducting patrols in a public housing complex in Richmond. This housing complex is a high crime area.

At about 7:30 p.m., they were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked on one of the local streets. Two males were in the vehicle. As the officers spoke to these men, one of them opened fire and Michael was shot.

Michael was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, the next day, he succumbed to his injuries.

Michael, patron saint of the
Police, pray for Michael
Walter and for those who
have lost him.
The shooter, Travis Ball, age 27, fled the scene but was apprehended by the authorities several hours later.  He has a lengthy prior criminal history.

Michael was originally from Philadelphia.

Michael was well known in Powhatan, Virginia, for the youth wrestling organization he founded. He wanted to make the sport available to kids of all economic backgrounds. He wanted to make a difference in the lives of under-privileged kids.  And he did make a difference.

Friends stated that Mike lived and breathed energy. Passion was certainly part of it, but he also had a bedrock sense of value and character that he displayed throughout his life and also exemplified before the people he was mentoring.

If you would like to make a donation in Mike's memory, you can mail a check to the state police emergency relief fund in his name, at The Virginia State Police Association, Emergency Relief Fund, 6944 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond VA 23225, NOTE: Place "SA Michael Walter" in the memo line

The members of the Virginia State Police are in mourning over the death of their brother. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Michael's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was greatly loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Michael is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to America and to Virginia, Michael.

Pray for justice for Michael.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Michael is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
