Taylor Thyfault - State Trooper killed in Colorado

Trooper Taylor Thyfault, age 21, died in the line of duty on May 23, 2015, on a highway near Longmont, Colorado.

Taylor Thyfault (L); Christopher Gebers (R)
Taylor was a Cadet with the Colorado State Patrol.  He was posthumously promoted to Trooper.

Taylor was in the company of another trooper as part of his required training and was at the scene of a vehicle crash on Highway 66.

They were conducting an accident investigation when a vehicle that was being pursued by troopers approached their location.

Taylor and the other trooper were deploying stop sticks when the driver of the vehicle swerved and struck them both. Taylor's last act had been to shout out to a tow truck driver on the scene to get out of the way.

Tragically Taylor died at the scene and the other trooper, Clint Rushing, age 37, was

seriously injured.

The driver of the vehicle that struck them, Christopher Lee Gebers, age 27, of Weld County, was apprehended nearby. He states that his gas pedal was stuck. However, he may yet be charged with murder.

Christopher Gebers is innocent unless proven guilty. However, he has previous convictions for theft, dope pushing, drunk driving and carrying a concealed weapon. This dude is bad news from the word go.

A fundraising site has been established to help both troopers' families with expenses.

Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran.  He had served with the Colorado State Patrol for only a few weeks.

Taylor's funeral was held at the Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette.

The Colorado State Patrol is in mourning over the death of their young brother. He had a future in law enforcement. Taylor will be forever remembered.

Taylor's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He was a good kid. He is his family's hero. He will be forever mourned.

Taylor is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother, Carole Thyfault Adler.

Thank you for your service to the community, Taylor.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die young. They barely had a chance to live.

God save us from the drunk drivers, the doped up drivers and the psychotic drivers. They strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that Taylor is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
